BEMIS is the national Ethnic-Minorities-led umbrella body supporting the development of the Ethnic Minorities voluntary sector in Scotland and the communities that this sector represents. We are committed to supporting the Scottish Government to build opportunities, life chances and wellbeing for all of Scotland’s citizens. We do this through various interventions via action research methodologies to gain further understanding, test interventions prior to mainstreaming and building partnerships based on development of inclusive practices and ensuring equal opportunities across areas such as:
In particular, we have been working with employers and National Training Providers to raise awareness of and participation in Scottish Apprenticeships and other employment opportunities amongst young people from ethnic and cultural minority communities. For example, we will be holding our 2nd annual ‘Scottish Apprenticeships, Careers and Volunteering’ (postponed from 2nd March due to the weather) which is open to all, but is actively promoted throughout our networks and will have a strong minority ethnic attendance.
