Burns Night event

The funding will enable us to organise a Burns Night event in January 2016. Our organisation has been organising this event since 2014 in partnership with Glasgow Life. For 2016 we would like to continue working with Glasgow Life in this event. This will involve Burns’ poetry readings in different community languages, performance from Glasgow Integrated voices – a choir comprising women from up to 7 nationalities, a fusion of Haggis with recipes from different nationalities and food and dance from different cultures.

Dalry Primary School Parent Council St Martin’s Resource Centre

Edinburgh

Multicultural Burns Supper

We plan to hold a proper Burns Supper that is accessible to the very ethnically diverse children and their families that attend Dalry Primary School in Edinburgh. The Parent Council (PC) want as many people as possible to experience the pageantry of a Burns Supper including a taste of the food, poetry, music and dance of Scotland. Very few of the parents, the majority of whom are from outside Scotland, had attended a Burns Supper or knew what happened at one. We want to provide background information for parents such as a modern English version of the poetry to be recited, an explanation of the traditions around a Burns Supper and its origins.

Pipe in the Haggis, poetry recitations, serving of haggis and other traditional Scottish food, Ceilidh band and Scottish Country dancing demonstration.
