We propose to invite around 15 Scottish Muslims to prepare and share dishes which speak to their cultural background. The event will be open to the public and provide a tasty introduction to the diversity of Muslim communities in Scotland. We hope to involve Muslims with connections to Pakistan, Turkey, the Arab world, Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia as well as converts who will bring their own unique stories to the event via their food. |

Multicultural Burns Supper
We plan to hold a proper Burns Supper that is accessible to the very ethnically diverse children and their families that attend Dalry Primary School in Edinburgh. The Parent Council (PC) want as many people as possible to experience the pageantry of a Burns Supper including a taste of the food, poetry, music and dance of Scotland. Very few of the parents, the majority of whom are from outside Scotland, had attended a Burns Supper or knew what happened at one. We want to provide background information for parents such as a modern English version of the poetry to be recited, an explanation of the traditions around a Burns Supper and its origins. Pipe in the Haggis, poetry recitations, serving of haggis and other traditional Scottish food, Ceilidh band and Scottish Country dancing demonstration. |
