Empowering Scotland's Ethnic and Cultural Minority Communities
The role of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Community Cohesion in tackling racism, discrimination to inform a hate crime strategy
The aim of this session is to consider how we promote intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and community interaction to challenge hate crime, discrimination and inequality in Scotland.
The things that define us as people; language, music, oral traditions, food, community and social history must be equally celebrated in Scotland as part of an ‘inclusive national identity’. An identity that is multicultural, multi-ethnic and reflective of all of the people of Scotland.
This session will aim to develop recommendations to Hate Crime Strategy for Scotland on the importance of using ICH as a mechanism for creating an inclusive and confident multicultural / ethnic society within which racism is not tolerated and is marginalised as an extremist, minority position.
