On the 25th June it was a pleasure to bring partners together in Dumfries for our latest REHR Network Meeting. The day was filled with open, honest, and thought-provoking discussions on community cohesion, democratic participation, and anti-racism—topics that feel more important than ever in the current context.
We were grateful to have insightful presentations from the Scottish Government and the Anti-Racism Observatory for Scotland (AROS). The Scottish Government provided an overview of the Anti-Racism Delivery Plan, while AROS presented their approach to tackling racism and highlighted the community hubs that are currently being launched as part of its engagement and evidence-gathering work.
We also were pleased to be joined by a range of panellists working within the anti-racism space, to discuss how we can increase meaningful ethnic minority representation in local decision making spaces.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association and Dumfries & Galloway Council for inviting us to host and particularly for Yen and Lynda’s support in creating such a welcoming and collaborative space.
The event brought together a diverse range of people working to advance equality and human rights across Dumfries and Galloway, alongside attendees who travelled from other parts of Scotland. It was particularly inspiring to see the shared commitment to promoting race equality, strengthening community cohesion, and driving positive change.
And of course, a special mention for the brilliant lunch by Abdulrahman!
